This week's mindful mantra is one of my most used mantra's overall; it is what it is.
I like to use this mantra to ease disappointments, accept changes and challenges and appreciate life from moment to moment.
Parenting is one of those unpredictable and very emotional rollercoasters. We certainly have fun while we are on the ride, but that doesn't mean that we don't also experience the fear before the drop or the sadness once the ride's over. You don't know exactly what's coming around each turn but you can guarantee it will take you in a new direction, wether it be left, right, straight or upside down! Rollercoasters move at top speed, much like parenting. When one hill is over, another one appears. So, why not find a way to allow the small stuff to roll off your back with an acceptance of unpredictability?
Using the mantra it is what it is, allows me to accept life in the as is moment. It is incredible the instant freedom that can come from this mantra in the moments you need it most. Imagine, in the face of anything you might otherwise associate with disappointment, that you attach an understanding to it. That we instead remind ourselves that life is unpredictable and accidents will happen.
your child spills their juice all over the carpet, it is what it is.
your husband forgot to pick up groceries on his way home from work, it is what it is.
your mother chimes in on the right way to parent, it is what it is.
This mindful mantra is a great way to not invest too deeply in something outside of your control, which might otherwise cloud your judgments, infect your attitudes and poison your day.
Try it with me this week parents! In the face of unpredictability, which I know all parents experience, remember that it is what it is.
